🏈 (NFL) Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence. Missing two games with a sprained shoulder may have been the best thing for Lawrence’s public image. Backup Mac Jones turned in two of the worst statistical games of any passer this season as Jacksonville fell to 2-9 entering its bye week, showing everyone just how much Lawrence carries the offense (and overall team). Lawrence practiced on Monday and is expected to return to the starting lineup as soon as Sunday. -Gus Logue
🏈 (CFB) Miami Hurricanes. After this past weekend’s SEC implosion, the path to the College Football Playoff got much easier for Miami. With Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Alabama all taking their third loss, it's hard to imagine the playoff committee keeping out an 11-1 Hurricanes squad regardless of what happens in the ACC Championship game. All Mario Cristobal’s guys have to do is handle business against Syracuse this Saturday and the fans down in Coral Gables should be able to breathe easy heading into Selection Sunday. -Trent Osborne
🏀 Orlando Magic. Many thought it would be a tough stretch for Orlando without All-Star forward Paolo Banchero. However, the ball club has now won nine of their last 10 games and hold the no. 3 seed in Eastern Conference. Prior to last year, the Magic had not gone 9-1 over a 10-game span since 2010. This team has played well together and are being led by Franz Wagner, who should undoubtedly be an All-Star this season. What’s even scarier is that Banchero believes he can return to the floor by Christmas. Don’t sleep on this Orlando squad. -RJ Saunders
⚾️ Rays home games. The Rays have found a home for the 2025 season. Tampa Bay will play their home games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, the spring training ballpark of the New York Yankees. MLB announced this week that the Rays will play 19 of their first 22 games at home to start 2025. -Andrew Gibson

🏈 (NFL) The AFC South. Technically, one of the Texans, Colts, Jaguars and Titans has to make the playoffs … but each team has experienced significant speed bumps this season. Nobody’s quarterback has looked as good as expected, and none of these squads seem ready for a deep playoff run. Houston has the division lead at 7-5, but if Jacksonville can upset them at home this week, the AFC South will officially be a slobberfest. -Gus Logue
🏈 (CFB) Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide are 8-3 after a brutal 21-point loss to the 6-5 Oklahoma Sooners, marking their first three-loss season since 2010. The Tide have now lost multiple games to unranked opponents this year, something they haven’t done since Nick Saban’s first campaign in 2007. The seat is already getting warm under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa — whether warranted or not. I believe DeBoer will have Alabama as a consistent winner and deserves the benefit of the doubt (for now), but missing the first iteration of the 12-Team College Football Playoff will be a Kadyn Proctor-size pill to swallow for fans of the program. -Trent Osborne
🏀 New NBA All-Star game format. The NBA has announced that they are switching to a four-team format for their All-Star game in an attempt to improve their product. This may be the last stand for the league in hopes to have a competitive Sunday Classic in February. However, this doesn’t sit well with many hoops diehards. The All-Star game used to be viewed as the best pickup game in the world and didn’t need to have this many realignments in hopes to deliver a good product or inspire those where were named to the All-Star team. Should this not work, the association may have to think about doing away with the exhibition altogether. -RJ Saunders
⚾️ Teams will mid-level pay rolls. The Dodgers strike again. The World Series champions have signed LHP Blake Snell to a 5-year contract worth $180+ million. It's tough for teams with mid-level payrolls and lower because it seemingly increases the gap between the Dodgers and the rest of baseball. The Snell signing has sparked debate among those want a salary cap for MLB. -Andrew Gibson
