  • 🏈 (NFL) Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby. One of the few bright spots for the Jaguars — the NFL’s only winless team through four weeks — is encouraging play by some of its youth. Bigsby is one of the best examples. After a forgetful rookie campaign that saw him average 2.6 yards per carry and cause multiple turnovers, the former 88th overall pick is currently leading all players with 8.2 yards per tote (min. 20 attempts). The coaching staff doesn’t yet trust him in passing situations, and Travis Etienne remains the unquestioned starter, but Bigsby is beginning to become the bruiser that Jacksonville originally envisioned. -Gus Logue

  • 🏈 (CFB) Colorado Buffaloes. It would have seemed like insanity a few weeks ago, but the Fighting Deions of Colorado are legit players in the Big 12 Championship race. With Arizona and Oklahoma State looking like a disappointment, and Kansas State and Utah looking far from invincible, the conference is even more wide open than we thought in August. The Buff’s 48-21 blowout of UCF on Saturday is easily the most impressive win of the Deion Sanders era, and Travis Hunter is having one of the most impressive seasons in college football history through five weeks. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but the path to a conference title is there for Colorado. -Trent Osborne

  • 🏀 Knicks C Karl Anthony-Towns. In a shocking pre-season trade, New York acquired NBA All-Star and longtime Wolves big man Karl Anthony Towns. This trade is probably the piece that makes the Knicks now able to go toe-to-toe with the defending champion Boston Celtics, because now you have a player that fits in a lineup defensively that can matchup and play the perimeter against Kristaps Porziņģis. Before Towns’ injury last season, he was nearly a 50-40-90 guy. Now he joins a team with championship aspirations. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Former Gators Pete Alonso and Harrison Bader lead Mets to postseason. Alonso was a central figure in the Mets’ playoff push. He posted 34 home runs this year and made his third straight All-Star team. Bader is not an everyday player but is relied upon for his speed and defense. Together the former Gators have the Mets rolling with a 1-0 lead in the National League Wild Card against Milwaukee. -Andrew Gibson

  • 🏈 (NFL) Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is not playing up to the $275 million contract he signed four months ago. He’s completed 53.3% of passes (32nd among 33 quarterbacks) for 729 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception this season. His 6.0 yards per attempt ranks 28th and his 78.9 passer rating ranks 26th. Coach Doug Pederson said Monday, “I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I say that he knows he's got to make those throws. Those are NFL, big-time throws.” He’s not wrong. The issue, though, is that Lawrence is in a slump due to lack of confidence. It’s unclear whether the issue is himself, his teammates, his coaches, or all of the above — but we’ve all seen him hit “big-time throws” before. He needs to get his swagger back if the Jaguars want to avoid picking first overall for the third time in five years. -Gus Logue

  • 🏈 (CFB) Florida State. For anyone who had been thinking that there was no way this season could get worse for Florida State, it’s time to face reality: the Seminoles stink. This isn’t a case of transfers needing more chemistry or great players not being locked in, this is simply a (really) bad football team. Any hope for a late season surge died after Saturday’s 42-16 embarrassment at the hands of SMU (you know, one of the teams that FSU sued the ACC over for joining the conference). The long awaited quarterback change may provide a spark to the offense, but it’s hard to envision it making a huge difference with no. 15 Clemson coming to town this weekend. -Trent Osborne

  • 🏀 Timberwolves F Julius Randle. In that same shocking pre-season trade, Minnesota acquired All-Star forward Julius Randle. However, this doesn’t feel like a trade that necessarily fits Randle nor the Wolves. Randle is a player that needs his touches on the floor and is most effective when he has the ball 15 feet and in. The glaring issue in all that the Wolves’ center, Rudy Gobert, needs that space Randle takes up to be useful within the offense. And Minnesota’s franchise centerpiece, Anthony Edwards, needs that same room in the lane to create shots for himself and others. Randle can stretch the floor but that’s not how you want to utilize him every possession. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Braves fall to 0-1 in Wild Card. The Braves fell to the Padres 4-0 Tuesday night in the opening game of the National League Wild Card. It has been a rollercoaster week for Atlanta who had to beat the Mets on Monday just to make the playoffs. Given the extent of their injuries to star players, it’s remarkable the Braves have made it this far. They must win Game 2 tonight in San Diego to save their season. -Andrew Gibson
