🏈 (NFL) Bears QB Caleb Williams. Chicago has won the big prize in this year’s coaching cycle: former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson made an in-division move to become the Bears’ 18th head coach on Monday. He helped revitalize Jared Goff’s career, and now he’ll work with another former no. 1 pick in Caleb Williams. If Johnson can get the most out of Williams, and Chicago’s offensive line is quickly retooled, the Bears will be a force to be reckoned with. -Gus Logue
🏈 (CFB) Ohio State Buckeyes. Hard to believe that this is the same team that couldn’t score more than 10 points against the Michigan Wolverines. The Buckeyes dominated Notre Dame (despite a second-half rally from the Irish) to claim their third National Championship since the turn of the century. OSU caps off one of the most impressive four-game stretches in the history of College football, defeating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and the aforementioned Irish all in the span of a month to claim the CFP title. Ohio State’s win marks the second consecutive Natty for the Big 10 (the Wolverines won it all in 2024), adding fuel to the debate of which conference is truly the class of College Football. -Trent Osborne
🏀 Atlanta Hawks. It seems the Hawks are the Eastern Conference's biggest enigma this season. They’re 8-3 in games against teams in the East currently over .500., including 6-2 against the Cavs, Celtics and Knicks. Trae Young, who was in trade talks over the summer, is playing at an All-Star level once again. De’Andre Hunter remains a Sixth Man of the Year candidate, and Dyson Daniels is looked at as one of the best young defenders in the NBA. Atlanta is on the upswing and has turned into a sleeper in the East without question. -RJ Saunders
⚾️ HOF candidacy of Andruw Jones. While he fell short of the 75% vote threshold to make the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves’ legendary centerfielder is trending in the right direction. Jones saw an uptick in voting from the baseball writers going from 61.6% of the vote in 2024, to 66.2% this year. With two years of eligibility remaining, Jones feels like a good bet for Cooperstown. -Andrew Gibson

🏈 (NFL) Detroit Lions. Jared Goff’s squad was upset by Jayden Daniels’ Commanders in a major way on Saturday eveing. With Ben Johnson off to the Bears, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn expected to land with the Jets or the Saints, and even renowned offensive line coach Hank Fraley getting interviews elsewhere, it’ll be easier said than done for the Lions to repeat as the NFC’s no. 1 seed. Dan Campbell has his work cut out for him in 2025. -Gus Logue
🏈 (CFB) Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Unfortunately, one of these two teams had to end up here. The Irish finish their most successful season since the Clinton administration on a very sour note. A disastrous second quarter wiped away their legendary 10-minute drive to start the game and ND is still without a National Championship since 1988. Make no mistake, this team is not the Irish of the past 40 years. They excelled against elite competition and almost completed the biggest comeback in title game history against the Buckeyes, something that the Brian Kelly-era teams couldn’t dream of doing. There’s a lot to be excited about for fans of the Golden Domers, but Monday’s loss will undoubtedly sting for a while. -Trent Osborne
🏀 Orlando Magic. Orlando remains shorthanded, though their remarkable resilience that we’ve praised them for is starting to hit a wall. They’ve lost six of their last seven games and are continuing to struggle offensively, as 3-point shooting remains an Achilles heel. That said, the Magic are the NBA’s only undefeated team when shooting 36 percent or better from deep, which they’ve done eight times this season. And star forward Franz Wagner has entered the "return to competition conditioning" phase of his recovery, meaning his return from a torn oblique is getting closer and closer. -RJ Saunders
⚾️ HOF chances for PED users. The baseball writers have been pretty clear over the years — if you have been associated with PEDs, your chances of getting into the Hall of Fame are slim to none. That was the case again this year on the voting numbers for Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez. Rodriguez saw little progress getting 37.1% of votes, and Ramirez was even lower at 34.3%. With 75% needed to make it, both are currently a long-shot at best. -Andrew Gibson
