  • 🏈 (NFL) Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. One of the few bright spots of Jacksonville’s season so far is its first-round rookie receiver. BTJ has only seen four targets in each of his first two professional games, but he’s made the most of his opportunities. The former LSU stud currently ranks fourth in yards per target (17.6) and 19th in receiving yards (141) among all NFL players. -Gus Logue

  • 🏈 (CFB) UCF Golden Knights. It's a low bar, but the Golden Knights may be the second-best team in the state of Florida. In a sneaky-good matchup between two teams receiving Top 25 votes, UCF overcame a 21-point deficit to takedown TCU, 35-34. The pass game and the defense leave a bit to be desired but the rushing attack of transfer QB KJ Jefferson and senior RB RJ Harvey (226 combined yards) is one of the best in the country. The Knights are off this week as they prepare for Colorado and an October 5th tilt against the Gators. -Trent Osborne

  • 🏀 Lakers C Christian Koloko. Though he wasn’t able to suit up for Toronto for over a year due to health reasons, Los Angeles may have found a diamond in the rough. The 7’0” center, who is listed as having a 7’5 wingspan, is without question going to be a project for L.A. However, Koloko has an opportunity to see the floor after signing a two-way deal with the Lakers. He may not be the “bruising” center that coach JJ Redick spoke about wanting, but he is a big man with a motor and a defensive mindset. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Braves 2B Ozzie Albies. The Braves’ three-time All Star hit a three-run homer last night in his return to field after being sidelined since July with a fractured left wrist. Albies is on a rehab assignment tonight in Jacksonville with the Gwinnett Stripers against the Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. -Andrew Gibson

  • 🏈 (NFL) Jaguars DT Maason Smith. Smith, who was also drafted by the Jaguars out of LSU during the offseason, was inactive for Sunday’s game against Cleveland. It was a surprise healthy scratch — Smith didn’t miss the game due to injury or sickness. He showed some encouraging flashes in the season opener but will need to play with more consistency to earn a role, let alone a spot on the game day roster. -Gus Logue

  • 🏈 (CFB) FSU Seminoles. I hate to make the vibes in Tallahassee even worse, but this was supposed to be the easy part of FSU’s schedule. With future games against #21 Clemson, #8 Miami, and #17 Notre Dame, the Noles are staring a 6-6 (if not worse) season dead in the face. The offense still looked like a complete mess coming out of a bye against a G5, albeit underrated, team in Memphis. If Florida State is unable to take down undefeated Cal at home this Saturday, it may be the last game quarterback DJ Uiagalelei starts for the Seminoles. -Trent Osborne

  • 🏀 Jonathan Kuminga max extension. According to reports, the Golden State Warriors are not interested in offering the guard/forward a max extension similar to the five-year, $224 million deal Franz Wagner got from the Orlando Magic. Without question, Golden State is in a place where they need to start planning for their future. You’d hope that Kuminga is part of that with the talent he brings to the table. However, the Warriors may not see him as a max guy as of yet, making this a huge year for the budding star. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Tampa Bay Rays postseason chances. With less than two weeks left in the regular season, the Rays are facing a tough reality. This will likely be their first losing season since 2017. And barring a miraculous stretch over the next 11 days, Tampa Bay will miss the postseason for the first time since 2018. -Andrew Gibson
