This week’s biggest story: the start of Jacksonville Jaguars training camp.

The defensive side of the ball has started fast under new coordinator Ryan Nielsen. He’s known his “attacking and aggressive” philosophy, and it’s shown up through the first week of practices. It’ll be interesting to monitor the defense as pads come on and physicality rises. Another situation to watch is Devin Lloyd’s comfortability playing MIKE linebacker after switching from WILL.

Nielsen said last week: “When you go into the unit meetings and you talk to the players … you feel like the players have really bought in. If you ask them for something, 'Hey, we've got to have better effort in this, or align a little quicker,’ you see it. So, that's all you can ask for as a coach. One of the things is players, they don't care what you know until they know how much you care.”

  • 🏈 Jaguars kicker Cam Little. Jacksonville waived 2022 playoff hero Riley Patterson on Monday, opening the door for 20-year-old Cam Little to start as a rookie. He made a school-record 82.8% of field goals and 100% of extra points in three seasons at Arkansas. According to Demetrius Harvey of the Times-Union, Little had made 9 of 10 field goals during the one-on-one phase of training camp (plus a 62-yarder in warmups) compared to 8 of 10 for Patterson. -Gus Logue

  • 🏀 Team USA F Jayson Tatum. There has been a lot of talk about the NBA Champion being omitted from game action during Team USA’s victory against Serbia. With a team that has as much star power as the red, white & blue have, someone is going get their feelings hurt game to game when it comes to playing time while in Paris. However, Coach Kerr has stated that the Boston Celtics star will receive playing time during the squad’s next game. All that pent up anger Tatum has sat on in recent days should spell trouble for the United States’ next opponent. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Marlins President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix. The Marlins were the most active team at the MLB Trade Deadline on Tuesday. Bendix and the Miami front office made SIX deals before the deadline to replenish their farm system. Many would suggest the Marlins came away as the winner of the trade deadline considering the treasure trove of prospects they acquired via trade. -Andrew Gibson

  • 🏈 Jaguars red zone offense. Jacksonville’s offense struggled in the first few days of training camp, especially in red zone periods. Trevor Lawrence and the rest of the unit rebounded well but it’s still worth monitoring how the Jaguars perform in that condensed area of the field. They ranked in the bottom-half of the league in red zone touchdown rate in each of the past two seasons under Doug Pederson. -Gus Logue

  • 🏀 Lakers G D’Angelo Russell. The Los Angeles Lakers guard has heard his name in trade rumors dating back to last year. However, as L.A. looks to acquire talent before the season year tips off, there doesn’t seem to be any squad around the association interested in Russell’s services. The Lakers will need to find a way to add another scorer without offering Russell. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Braves outfield. The Braves outfield continues to struggle due to injury and underperformance. All three outfielders who started Tuesday night were batting under .250. Yes, Atlanta traded for 2021 World Series hero Jorge Soler on Monday night, but it's fair to question if he is enough to make a significant difference. -Andrew Gibson
