  • 🏈 (NFL) Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence. Nobody is trending up more than Lawrence after Jacksonville secured Liam Coen as its new head coach. Coen, who was featured in this section two weeks ago, recently helped Baker Mayfield set Buccaneers franchise records in completion percentage and passer rating. As a former quarterback himself and proud member of Sean McVay’s coaching tree, Coen’s top job will be maximizing Lawrence, who’s still just 25 years old. “I cannot respect his toughness and mentality and work ethic more than I do already from afar,” Coen said at his introductory presser on Monday. “This will all be about Trevor right now.” -Gus Logue

  • 🏈 (CFB) Texas QB Arch Manning. No questions about it now, Arch is QB1 in Austin. After 2024 starter Quinn Ewers officially declared for the NFL draft last week, all the mystery about who would be under center for the Longhorns in 2025 washed away. The nephew of Peyton and Eli flashed in his limited playing time last year and will come into this season with the most anticipation we’ve seen in quite some time for a player who’s never been a full-time starter. Manning currently has the second-highest odds to win the Heisman Trophy behind LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier. -Trent Osborne

  • 🏀 Phoenix Suns. Although the Suns got clobbered in Cleveland, their win against the Clippers improves their record to 8-3 since moving Bradley Beal to the bench. And even though Beal is coming off the bench, he’s been on the floor down the stretch of the games he was available for. Before playing Los Angeles, Phoenix played 11 of their last 12 games against the Eastern Conference, and they’ll now play their next 10 straight games within the Western gauntlet. Could a blockbuster move by the deadline help strengthen the bunch for the second half of the year? -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Braves’ outfield. Atlanta upgraded its outfield on Thursday by signing free agent Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $42 million deal. The veteran switch-hitter is coming off a career year with the Padres where he hit .280 with 24 home runs — those numbers made him an All-Star with San Diego in 2024. The signing of Profar gives the Braves a strong option in the outfield and lineup flexibility with Ronald Acuña Jr. expected to miss at least the first month of the season. Acuña is still rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered last spring. -Andrew Gibson

  • 🏈 (NFL) Jaguars interior offensive line. Coen expressed his desire to improve Jacksonville’s trenches on Monday. “I think we would all agree that it needs to improve, right? I think, first and foremost, when you look at the offensive side of the ball, you want that unit and that group, it's the first thing when you break the huddle that the defense sees. I want that to mean something.” The Jaguars have left tackle Walker Little and right tackle Anton Harrison under contract for several more seasons, but it’ll be interesting to see how much of the interior O-line is overturned this offseason. Having a strong offensive line would be huge for a first-time head coach. -Gus Logue

  • 🏈 (CFB) Ohio State Buckeyes. It ain’t easy being king. Less than a week after dominating Notre Dame en route to a national championship, the Buckeyes lose their highly touted defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. It’s not uncommon for championship-level teams to lose assistant coaches, but when it’s to make a lateral move (at best) and take another DC job at the college level? That’s a bit odd. When they leave to make said lateral move and go to a team that’s annually a massive roadblock between you and a conference title? That’s VERY odd. Knowles did just that when he agreed to become the new DC at Penn State. He’ll take on his former team on November 1st when the Nittany Lions travel to Columbus to take on Ohio State. -Trent Osborne

  • 🏀 Golden State Warriors. Golden State remains outside the Western Conference’s play-in tournament after losing a few games that could’ve helped them last week. The Warriors blew a 19-point lead in Sacramento and saw their game against the Lakers get away early in the third quarter. Stephen Curry may be also feeling the offensive burden he’s been carrying over this eight-game stretch, shooting 40% (33% from 3-point range). The Dubs have four games left on their six-game homestand and will face the Jazz twice in the next 10 days. For what it’s worth, the Warriors are currently 5-0 against the bottom-three teams in the West. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Astros' outfield. Houston traded three-time All-Star Kyle Tucker to the Cubs in December, leaving a massive void in their outfield. So much so that the team would reportedly consider moving future Hall of Famer Jose Altuve to the outfield — a position he has never played. The Astros will figure it out, they always do, but they have an uninspiring collection of outfielders projected to start on Opening Day. -Andrew Gibson
