Jaguars hold joint practices with Buccaneers

Mike Evans vs Tyson Campbell is one of the best matchups to watch.

Welcome to 1010XL Weekly!

This week’s biggest story: the Jaguars’ joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jacksonville hasn’t hosted a joint practice in several years: they traveled to Detroit and Atlanta in the past two offseasons, and COVID-19 ruined any shot of a shared practice before that. But now, Mike Evans, Tristan Wirfs, Antoine Winfield Jr., Lavonte David, and the rest of the Bucs will be driving a few hours northeast to practice with the Jags. Tyson Campbell and Travon Walker are among Jaguars who will get invaluable reps this week. Keep your eyes peeled for highlights and updates from our social media accounts on Wednesday and Thursday!

  • 🏈 Jaguars WR Parker Washington. The second-year receiver has been one of Jacksonville’s most improved players this offseason. He had an impressive training camp before recording a 73-yard kick return in Saturday’s game against the Chiefs, which was the longest return by any player so far in the 2024 NFL preseason. “He’s a spark,” Trevor Lawrence said after the game. “He's been working super hard, so it's cool to see the work pay off more than anything.” -Gus Logue

  • 🏀 Team USA G Stephen Curry. The Chef was in the kitchen and served a masterclass to France en route to another Team USA men’s basketball gold medal. He connected on 8-of-13 three-point attempts, including four makes in the fourth quarter. You could argue that the red, white and blue wouldn’t have won without Curry’s late game heroics against Serbia in the seminfinals, either. The future Hall of Famer is regarded as the greatest shooter ever, as we’ve already seen some outstanding performances from him, but Curry’s moments against Serbia and France will be remembered among the best of his career. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Braves LHP Chris Sale. We are watching vintage Chris Sale. He was dominant on Monday night with 12 strikeouts over seven shutout innings against the Giants. The lefty ace has been everything the Braves could have hoped for and more this season. Sale is the frontrunner for the National League Cy Young Award. -Andrew Gibson

  • 🏈 Jaguars DT Roy Robertson-Harris. The eighth-year NFL veteran has been seen playing with backup units more than expected during training camp. He seems to be the odd man out of a suddenly crowded defensive tackle room: Arik Armstead signed a big deal (and was activated off the PUP list Tuesday), Davon Hamilton is returning to full health, Tyler Lacy has taken a leap going into his second season, Jeremiah Ledbetter has flashed in camp, and rookies Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson are now in the mix. Robertson-Harris may end up joining Adam Gotsis as surprise veteran cuts. -Gus Logue

  • 🏀 Team USA F Jayson Tatum. This wasn’t the outcome that Tatum expected after winning the NBA Championship in June. In terms of minutes and production, his 2024 Olympic impact was at a minimum. However, with NBA legends like LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are on the team, someone was going to get their feelings hurt. Hopefully Tatum uses his personal disappointments this summer and turns it into a positive. He may be one of the ‘legends’ trying to lead Team USA to another gold medal in four years time. -RJ Saunders

  • ⚾️ Tampa Bay’s home record. The Rays dropped their second straight game at home Tuesday night with a 3-2 loss to the Astros. Tampa Bay now has a losing record (31-33) at home this season. The Rays are still in the hunt for a wild card spot, but it’s crunch time as we enter the final six weeks of the regular season. -Andrew Gibson
