🏈 (NFL) Eagles GM Howie Roseman. The University of Florida alum is making a case as the best general manager in modern NFL history. Roseman’s Philadelphia Eagles just won their second Super Bowl in seven seasons, which is astonishing, considering the two teams had a different head coach and a different starting quarterback. Roseman has turned the Birds into a juggernaut by incorporating analytics and investing in the offensive/defensive lines. -Gus Logue
🏀 Los Angeles Lakers. Over the past three weeks, the Lakers tallied 10 wins and became the top-ranked defense and sixth-ranked offense, and Luka Dončić has only played one game with the team. Los Angeles has gone from a team that was going to struggle to make the Play-In tournament to one that could make a legit playoff run. In his first game as a Laker, Luka recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. It’s clear he needs to shake the rust off, but once he does — and if the team continues to play the way they are — the rest of the league is in trouble. -RJ Saunders
⚾️ Jumbo Shrimp coaching staff. The Jumbo Shrimp announced their 2025 coaching staff on Tuesday. Former MLB pitcher David Carpenter has been named Jacksonville’s new manager for this season. The 39-year-old West Virginia native spent six seasons as a pitcher in the major leagues including time with the Atlanta Braves. Boasting an extensive background in baseball as a player, coach and manager, the 2025 season will be Carpenter’s first piloting a team in Minor League Baseball. -Andrew Gibson

🏈 (NFL) Chiefs GM Brett Veach. All of a sudden, Kansas City’s roster looks a lot worse than it did a few weeks ago. Patrick Mahomes certainly wasn’t blameless for the recent Super Bowl loss, but he didn’t exactly get much help, either. The Chiefs were playing left guard Joe Thuney as their blindside protector and 35-year-old Travis Kelce somehow remains the top weapon on the team. Mahomes needs better protection and better pass-catchers, and the defense could use a boost, too. Mahomes will be back with a vengeance, but Veach must do his part to make it happen. -Gus Logue
🏀 Orlando Magic. For a second straight season, Magic president Jeff Weltman elected not to make any moves at the NBA trade deadline. This may come back to hurt the team, which in all fairness has dealt with an injury bug all year. Still, the team is struggling to shoot league average from beyond the arc, so trying to find a more reliable three-point shooter at the deadline could’ve helped. Franz Wagner is averaging 27.8 points and 5.6 rebounds since returning from injury yet the Magic are struggling to win games to work their way out of the Play-In. The All-Star break may be a blessing for this young group. -RJ Saunders
⚾️ Staying power of the Rays. Pitchers and catchers report today in Port Charlotte for the Rays. For many years now, Tampa Bay has figured out how to put a contender on the field despite a small payroll. The Rays have developed players perhaps better than anyone in baseball over the last four to five years. But their staying power is now being tested. They missed the playoffs in 2024 for the first time in five years. Tampa still has talent, and a terrific manager in Kevin Cash, but their ability to compete in the rugged AL East will be tested in 2025. -Andrew Gibson
